Hilton’s Memorial Day events canceled

Hiscock-Fishbaugh American Legion Post 788, in coordination with the Village of Hilton, regretfully announce the cancellation of its annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony at the Hilton Community Center on Monday, May 25, 2020. This was a difficult, but necessary, decision to comply with and promote proper social distancing during this pandemic.

In further consideration for the health of fellow citizens, the Post will not distribute Memorial Day Poppies this year. This tradition, which raises funds supporting deployed military members and local Veterans, is something the Post looks forward to but, unfortunately, this simple act would put members in a position violating social distancing guidelines.

Post 788 members, joined by Boy Scout Troop 99 and following social distancing procedures, placed 750 American flags on Veteran graves in Parma-Union Cemetery on May 9. The flags will remain in place through Independence Day. The Post encourages all residents to pause for a moment on Memorial Day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation and community.
