Kendall receives grant funding to replace culverts
The Town of Kendall has been awarded grant funding through the Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) for the replacement of four culverts located on Thompson Drive, Knapp Shore (2) and Ed Rose Shore. All culverts are located within 200 feet of Lake Ontario, and are negatively impacted by high water levels and wave action. The existing metal culverts are in poor condition and will be replaced with three-sided concrete structures that are more resilient to the conditions along the lakeshore.
To facilitate the project, the town has contracted with LaBella Associates for engineering and construction oversight. The project is currently in the final phase of design, with construction planned for this fall (2020) and next year (2021). The majority of the construction will be completed by town forces. The town will be completing one culvert at a time in order to minimize traffic impacts. Access to all residences will be maintained throughout the project. Temporary access roads will be constructed in order to reach all properties located on Thompson Drive and Ed Rose Shore. Temporary detours will be provided to residents on Knapp Shore located between the two culverts being replaced.
The town is excited to pursue this project and make long term improvements for waterfront residents. The project will help the town provide resiliency in responding to high lake levels and improve infrastructure.
