Town of Chili adding drive-thru for school tax payments made by check
Chili Tax Receiver, Virginia Ignatowski, began accepting School Tax payments from Chili residents on September 1. While the Chili Town Hall is currently open to residents, only one person is allowed in a department at a time, with a limited holding area for additional residents. Residents are encouraged to mail their payment, drop it in the night deposit box located to the left of the front doors, or pay online at www.monroecounty.gov. The county has waived the usual three percent fee for online payments for this year’s school tax collection.
In an effort to further reduce the number of people entering the building, a drive-thru option is being added for school tax payments made by check. “Town Supervisor David Dunning approached me several weeks ago about adding this option as he was concerned that people may have to wait outside in September given the high volume of residents seeking hunting and marriage licenses in addition to making school tax payments,” said Ignatowski. “Additionally, this will assist the Town’s efforts to reduce staff exposure to COVID by implementing an outdoor option.”
The drive-thru will be available for check payments only from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Directional signs will be placed to assist residents in locating the drive-thru situated at the back of the building. Residents should bring both pages of their bill and will be asked to wear a mask during their transaction.
“The situation surrounding COVID has proven to be very fluid, so I advise that residents visit the town’s website at www.townofchili.org prior to making their payment to verify current options and instructions that are present at that time,” stated Ignatowski. “I can’t guarantee that the situation will be the same at the end of the collection as it is at the beginning.” The drive-thru is currently planned to run from until October 1.
