The Town of Sweden’s Tentative 2021 Budget, filed on September 22, lowers the regular tax levy by $173,633 and lowers the projected tax rates by thirty-nine cents per thousand in the Village of Brockport and sixty-one cents in the Town outside the Village. Most property owners will see a decrease in their Sweden Town Taxes on their January 2021 tax bill. There are two major exceptions: properties in the new Lake/Redman/Countryview water district and properties whose assessments rose more than 15 percent in the Village and 17 percent in the Town outside the Village.
“The Town Board took immediate action when COVID-19 struck,” said Supervisor Kevin Johnson. “We delayed the purchase of equipment, reduced staffing, and asked all departments to reduce departmental expenditures. At the same time we have preserved all services and are completing the capital projects that had already begun. It has been a tough process, but Sweden is in a strong financial position despite the challenges that COVID-19 has created.”
