Ogden town budget shows decrease in tax rate

After slight tax increases in 2017 and 2018, with a larger tax rate cut in 2019 due to the Town revaluation project without exceeding the tax cap, the Town of Ogden will once again not exceed the tax cap in 2021.

“More importantly, due to the 2018 revaluation of town and village properties, the Town of Ogden exhibited strict due diligence to ensure a decrease in the tax rate to combat the revaluation in 2019,” stated Ogden Town Supervisor Gay Lenhard. There was a 3.12 percent decrease for all residents, or eighteen-cents ($0.18), in town taxes to a rate of $5.59 per thousand. Ogden town taxes in the Village of Spencerport showed a 4.71 percent, or, twenty-cent ($0.20) decrease, to $4.05 per thousand. “In 2021, despite the mounting uncertainties regarding COVID-19, there will not be an increase in the tax rate, and taxpayers will continue to be taxed at the lower rate from the 2019 tax cut,” Lenhard said. These numbers reflect an ongoing effort of balancing tax rates between the two entities as prescribed by the New York State Auditor.

“I am very pleased that Ogden taxpayers will not be seeing an increase in taxes,” said Ogden Town Supervisor Gay Lenhard. “My department heads and partners on the town board have done a tremendous job ensuring that vital services continue to be delivered while keeping a watchful eye on spending, especially during these very trying times. This is a win for all of our residents.”

The public is invited to attend a public hearing regarding the 2021 Budget and Special Districts on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Ogden Community Center, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport. A copy of the budget will be available at the Ogden Town Clerk’s Office and on the town’s website, www.ogdenny.com, prior to the public hearing.
