Sweden adopts 2021 budget; lowers levy and rate

The Sweden Town Board adopted its 2021 Budget on October 27, lowering the operating tax levy by $173,633 and the projected tax rates by thirty-nine cents per thousand in the Village of Brockport and sixty-one cents in the town outside the village. The $5.5 million spending plan preserves all services while trimming personnel costs, equipment purchases, and discretionary spending in the wake of severe revenue disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most property owners will have a slight tax decrease; the major exception those in the new Lake/Redman Road water district. The first debt service payment on that new district will be on the January 2021 tax bill.

A home assessed at $137,500 in the Village of Brockport will have a town tax of $303.50; a home assessed at $137,500 in the town outside the village will have a town tax of $553.22. Some special district levies (sewer, water, lighting, drainage) apply to some properties in the town outside.

“All of our departments have done a tremendous job delivering services throughout the pandemic,” said Supervisor Kevin Johnson. “We remain in a strong position to continue delivering those services in 2021.”
