Zale leaves County Legislature for position on Ogden Town Board

Mike Zale and his wife, Kristen, have been active in the community, school board, and business community since they chose Spencerport in which to raise their family of four children. Mike is a lifetime resident of Monroe County and a 2000 graduate of Brockport High School. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Houghton College and began working as a tax preparer for a start-up tax corporation. Soon after, Mike became a partner in the firm. As the company grew and expanded, he took over the role of general manager. Mike became president of the corporation while studying to become a Financial Advisor and Registered Investment Advisor in New York State.

Mike’s desire to serve his community led him to the Monroe County Legislature 20th District, serving Ogden, Sweden, and Greece since 2015. During the pandemic, he has been instrumental in providing the community with updates from national, state, county, and town levels.

When a position opened up on the Ogden Town Board in August with Thomas Uschold’s retirement after 27 years, Mike decided to follow his heart. “I want to focus on the town,” he said. “Some of the most important things I have done in politics have nothing to do with politics, like being tangible and showing up for the community.” On September 28, Mike Zale was sworn-in as a member of the Ogden Town Board, leaving his post on the County Legislature.

Robert Colby was appointed to fill Zale’s County Legislature seat. Colby previously served from 2004 to 2015, leaving because of term limits. The Colby family has a history of community service, beginning with Abraham Colby, who was Ogden’s first Town Clerk in 1817.

When asked what might be next for him after the town board, Zale replied, “I am mulling over the notion of a possible future run for Town Supervisor. Maybe when Gay Lenhard retires. She is doing an incredible job.”
