GTC opens public review and comment period for draft Public Engagement Plan

The Genesee Transportation Council (GTC), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region, is making the draft Public Engagement Plan available for public review and comment through January 4, 2021.

GTC’s Public Engagement Plan (PEP) guides the public, GTC staff, member agencies, and sponsors who administer GTC-funded projects and programs through the public participation aspects of transportation planning projects. All GTC planning work products, as well as major amendments to adopted plans and programs, are incorporated into the PEP.

“Meaningful and effective participation is essential to the successful implementation of a public plan, project, or program, and is necessary to ensure the needs of the local community are adequately addressed,” GTC Executive Director Jim Stack said. “We strived to provide consistent guidance to manage expectations, but also leave room for flexibility to customize plans for different situations.”

An electronic version of the draft PEP is available online at http://www.publicinput.com/engagehttp://www.publicinput.com/engage. Interested parties that don’t have the ability to view the draft PEP online can call GTC at 232-6240 or email contactgtc@gtcmpo.org to make other arrangements to review a printed copy of the document.

After a 45-day public review, the GTC Planning Committee will make a final recommendation at its February 11, 2021 meeting. The GTC Board is expected to consider and adopt the new PEP at its February 25, 2021 meeting.

The United States Department of Transportation requires every metropolitan area with a population over 50,000 to have a designated MPO to qualify for receipt of federal highway and transit funds. GTC is the MPO for the nine-county region, including Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.
