Elves spotted in Hamlin

This year the Hamlin Recreation Department was unable to host its annual holiday events because of the pandemic. Due to this dreary situation, the Hamlin Recreation Department began its distribution of responses from Santa on Wednesday, December 9, after local children were encouraged to write letters to the famous man in the red suit. The letters had been dropped off in mailboxes located in the Hamlin Town Hall and at the Hamlin Public Library. With the help from local sponsors, the Hamlin Public Library, and the Friends of Hamlin Recreation, goodie bags were filled with treats and hand-delivered to the children in response to the letters they sent. According to Anke Applebaum, Town of Hamlin Recreation Director, “The holidays are hard enough for all of us under our current circumstances, but with a little effort and imagination, we could bring some joy and excitement to the youngest amongst us during what is definitely the most magical time of the year for them.” Shown are Anke Applebaum and Hamlin Town Clerk, Patty Jo Groenendaal, dressed to welcome visitors from the North Pole.
