Since early September a Police Advisory Committee, whose membership is representative of the greater Brockport community, has been at work addressing Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 which mandates municipalities with a police force examine reforming and reimagining their police departments. The committee’s biweekly meetings have been recorded and will be available to the public on the Village of Brockport’s website and Facebook page. Meeting minutes are also available on the village website, www.brockportny.org.
Municipalities must report their findings to the public in a public hearing, and enact any changes in a local law by April 1, 2021.
Public input in this endeavor is important. The village wants to know residents’ thoughts on the Brockport Police Department and is encouraging them to respond to a short survey that can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/brockportpd. The link is also available on the village’s website and Facebook page. The survey takes four minutes to complete and responses are needed by January 5, 2021.
