Sweden committee studies battery storage legislation
A committee chaired by Sweden Deputy Supervisor Robert Muesebeck is studying legislation to regulate the construction of battery storage buildings in the town. On October 27, 2020, the Sweden Town Board placed a six-month moratorium on the construction of battery storage buildings while legislation is developed.
The committee has met three times so far and is gleaning information from other municipal ordinances and the state building code. “There are many issues for us to consider,” Muesebeck said, “proximity to power grids, neighboring facilities, setbacks, construction. We have a good committee working on it and we should have legislation ready for the Town Board to consider well before the expiration of the moratorium.”
Prior to adoption of new legislation, the Town Board will conduct a public hearing to gather residents’ input. No public hearing has been scheduled at this time.
