Snow sculpture contest to become annual event in Riga

Every year Riga Recreation has partnered with the Churchville Lions Club to beat the wintertime blues by holding an annual “WinterFest” at Churchville Elementary School with the Lions’ “World Famous” chicken barbecue and a free carnival for youth in the school.

Due to the current health crisis we were unable to hold this community event, so we had to improvise. On January 31, the Lions held their event at the Town of Riga Highway Department. The Riga Recreation Department then held a “Who Can Build Riga’s Best Snowman/Snow Sculpture” contest during the month of February as its part of WinterFest 2021.

The winners of the first ever contest were:

•Bailey DiGiacomo – Softball Girl

•The Bridenbaugh Family – Snowman & Castle

  (Built To Last)

•The Cameron Family – Sunbathing Snowman

•The Enright Family – Dragon Power

•The Garrett Family – Snowman LOVE!

•The Burtner Family – Snowman Bowling for Penguins

•The Hoerner Family – Soccer Snowman

Certificates from local businesses were given to each winner. We will now make this event a part of our WinterFest celebrations in the future.
