Chicken barbecue supports mission work
The First Presbyterian Church of Chili, 3600 Chili Avenue, will be holding its 18th annual Chicken Barbecue on Sunday, May 16, from noon until sold out. Meals are $10 each.
This event enables the church to send youth and adults all over the United States and Honduras to lend a hand in rebuilding areas hit by storms, floods, and poverty. The scope of the work has been on homes with leaking roofs, flood damaged interiors, and peeling paint. The crews help the disabled by building wheelchair ramps and entry porches, digging drainage ditches to help keep the pathways dry. While doing this work, the crews have a chance to share the gospel with the residents they are serving.
Over the years, church members have all contributed in some way to make this event a success. There has always been enough help, enough energy, enough hands, not only from the church but also from the community. Jim Ehrmentraut has been cooking the chicken year after year and Sips Coffee Shop in Irondequoit has donated the cookies that accompany each meal.
