Work underway to mitigate canal seepage

The New York State Canal Corporation mobilized engineers and contractors on May 13 to begin mitigation efforts to address localized seepage occurring along the Erie Canal west of the Smith Street Bridge in Brockport. Out of an abundance of caution, the Canal Corporation closed the Brockport, Spencerport, and Holley guard gates and lowered the water level in this area.

The Erie Canal opened for navigation on May 21, but the section between Spencerport and Holley will remain closed until further notice while repair work is underway.

Updates and information will be provided at www.canals.ny.gov as the work progresses.
