The NYS Canal Corporation recently announced a new program, On the Canals, a series of free excursions at five locations, including Medina, Palmyra-Macedon, Waterloo, Montezuma, and Amsterdam. From kayaking, biking, and boating, to fishing and birding – there is an On the Canals experience for adventurers of all skill levels.
New full-service camping at scenic locations on the water complements the excursion program. Fully-outfitted campsites with canvas tents atop a raised platform, queen-size mattress, and solar showers are located at Yankee Hill in Amsterdam, Oak Island in Waterloo, Montezuma Lock E26 in Galen, and Lock E29 in Palmyra-Macedon. These sites are managed by Tentrr. A fifth glamping site is available at Lock C5 in Schuylerville, managed by Camp Rockaway.
