Photo of unknown sailor rescued from thrift shop

María Delgado Sutton, of Spencerport, recently went into a Brockport thrift store specifically to buy a picture frame. She said, “My heart literally broke as I glanced upon this framed photo of a U.S. Navy sailor that was tossed upon a cluttered shelf of old, dusty frames. Immediately I wiped off the glass and thanked him for his service in silence. At that precise moment, I knew I could not leave him there. If pictures could talk, this one spoke to me in volumes.” María doubted the cashier would understand why she needed to make this purchase. “Perhaps she thought I needed the frame. The truth is the frame means nothing. This man was someone’s son, maybe a brother, a husband, a dad, or an uncle. He will not go unnoticed. He has a story. To many, he may be the ‘unknown soldier,’ but does not God tell us in Corinthians 4:5 ‘There are no unknown soldiers.’ I certainly believe this. He will be remembered as a hero.” The sailor’s photo now graces María’s home, and she lights a candle in his name. “I honor him and all the ‘unknowns.’ I thank you for your sacrifices, I salute you for your courage and strength, and I thank you for my freedom. May your soul forever rest in peace.” Provided information and photo.
