College spring sports honors

•SUNY Brockport senior Egypt Page won his first NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championship title after posting a leap of 7.42m to win the long jump national crown at Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University. He becomes the second men’s outdoor national champion in program history since Mark Lineweaver won the Decathlon back in 1975. Page is the fifth national outdoor champion in program history (men’s & women’s), and he is the ninth champion overall between men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor programs.

•Spencerport grad Erin Coykendall led Big Ten women’s lacrosse champion Northwestern in assists with 44 and finished third in scoring with 65 points after starting all 16 games.

•Hilton grad and SUNY Brockport freshman Logan Hibbard was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-SUNYAC Conference in women’s lacrosse. Teammate Heather Conklin was named Offensive Player of the Year. A school-record six members of the SUNY Brockport women’s lacrosse team were named Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All Empire Region including Conklin and Hibbard. Goalie Morgan Elmer was named to the first team, while Courtney Cunningham, Hibbard, Margaret Smith, and Natalie Strough earned second-team status. 

Conklin is now a three-time all-region selection after earning first-team honors in 2019 and second-team status in 2018. She led the SUNYAC in four key statistical categories this season with 67 points, 55 goals, 63 draw controls, and 18 free position goals. She stands alone as the program’s all-time leader in career goals and is the only player in school history to surpass the 200-goal mark for her career.

Elmer was a first-team all-region selection and a first-team all-conference selection after the junior led the conference with 123 saves and a 56.2 save percentage. 

Hibbard’s outstanding freshman season finished with 33 points, 22 goals, eight on free position shots, and 18 caused turnovers. She was top-10 in the SUNYAC for all four statistical categories. 

Strough led the conference with 37 assists, and her 54 total points tied for the third-best in the SUNYAC. She also put her name in the school record books in 2021, registering the second-most points in a single game with 11 against Buffalo State early in the year. With nine assists in the contest, she set the new program record for assists in a game.

Cunningham finished the year with 19 points, 13 goals, and six assists. With 35 draw controls and 25 ground balls in 2021, she ranked eighth in both categories within the conference.

Smith helped lead one of the top defenses in the conference, as Brockport’s 7.77 goals allowed per game was the best in the SUNYAC. The team was also among the conference leaders in ground balls, caused turnovers, and successful clears.

•Three players from the Roberts Wesleyan men’s lacrosse team received all-conference honors. Hunter Lemieux received first-team honors and won Offensive Player of the Year for the East Coast Conference. The senior scored 47 goals and added 13 assists for a total of 60 points this season. Pat Hynes was also named to the first team and received Goalkeeper of the Year. He saved 132 shots this season with a save percentage of .581. Defender Colin Vandewater was awarded second-team honors after starting ten games this season for the Redhawks with 29 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. 

•SUNY Brockport outfielder Tom Kretzler was named Bob Wallace Co-Player of the Year, and Justin Beach was named Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year. Kretzler led the league with eight home runs this season and maintained a .333 batting average in 25 games with 27 runs, 22 RBI, and eight doubles. Beach led his team to an 18-7 overall record as the Golden Eagles finished 12-4 in divisional conference play to advance to the SUNYAC semifinals. In his 14th year as the head coach of the Golden Eagles, he coached nine All-Conference team selections and the Co-Player of the Year. Kretzler and Ryan Mansell earned All-Conference First Team honors, while Andrew Huffman, Trevor McCarthy, Jake Sisto, Daniel DelGaizo, Matt O’Dair, Nicholas Pastore, and Ryan Voight earned All-Conference second-team status.

•Roberts Wesleyan senior Lindsey Brinkel was awarded Attacker of the Year and classmate Emily Tomei Midfielder of the Year in the East Coast Conference women’s lacrosse. Brinkel led the ECC regular season with 74 points total coming from her 28 goals and 46 assists. She ranked among the best in the country in assists (fifth), points (seventh), and points per game (fifth). Tomei netted 38 goals this season and finished with 52 points while placing third in the league with 53 draw controls. Other Redhawks first-team honorees were junior attack Madison Bell, graduate midfielder Jessica Giancursio, senior defender Madilynn Walsh, and junior goalkeeper Natalie Arieno.

•The SUNY Brockport men’s track & field team earned 17 spots on the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-Atlantic Region: Ethan Carey (10,000 meter), Tony DeYoung (Discus & Shot Put), Matt Faulise (Shot Put), Matthew Jackson (Hammer), Art Jordan (Discus & Shot Put), Matthew Kilian (4×100 meter Relay), Devin Kipp (Discus), Olivier Kothor (100 meter & 4×100 meter Relay), Devon Legrair (4×100 meter Relay), Egypt Page (Long Jump & 4×100 meter Relay), Mike Panzarino (Decathlon), Taj Shaw (Triple Jump), and Marius Sidlauskas (1500 meter).

The women’s team earned eight spots on the All-Atlantic Region Team: Sarah Crockett (Shot Put), Alayna Fredenburg (Hammer & Javelin), Olivia George (Hammer), Halle King (Long Jump), Mia Montgomery (Triple Jump), Chanyce Powell (Triple Jump), and Lucia Sibley (400m Hurdles).

•Thirteen members of the Roberts Wesleyan men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams were named to the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field USTFCCCA All-Region Team. The men’s team had five student-athletes earn honors, while the women’s team had eight. To earn All-Region honors, individuals must be ranked top five in their respective event within their region. Relay teams must be in the top three of the region.

Honorees were: Ryan Karker – 800m (1:52.43); 4x400m relay (3:21.08); James Betts – 1500m (3:50.59); Josiah Ottolini – 1500m (3:50.43), 4×400 relay (3:21.08); 

Teddy Pintabona – 4×400 relay (3:21.08); Matthew Wottawa – 4×400 relay (3:21.08); Anna Ahlquist – PV (3.35m); Abigail Gostomski – 800m (2:14.84); Bailey Gostomski – 1500m (4:39.17); Kylee Odell – 1500m (4:47.22); Maya Pelayo – Javelin (34.40m); Brittany Shumway – 1500m (4:50.61); 5000m (18:05.29); Shayla Tillman – Heptathlon (3,440 pts); Lydia Ware – 100m (12.50).

•Four members of the SUNY Brockport softball team were named SUNYAC All-Conference. Amanda Blakely and Madison Evarts were named to the first team, while Olivia Hayden and Catherine Johnson earned second-team status. Blakely batted .309 over the course of 16 games this past season, ranked third on the team with 17 hits, and she added a team-best 10 RBIs. Evarts led the team with a .400 batting average, ranked second on the team with 18 hits, and she also added 12 runs scored.  Hayden finished the season tied for first in the league with ten stolen bases and posted a team-high 21 hits in 16 starts. Johnson ranked third in the SUNYAC with 48 total strikeouts, and she also ranked fifth in the league with a 2.33 earned run average.

•Three Brockport men’s lacrosse players were named to the All-Conference Team as seniors Michael Coletti and Ethan Stiles were Second-Team All-SUNYAC picks, and junior teammate Aidan Fitzgerald received Honorable Mention. Coletti ranked eighth in the SUNYAC with 11 caused turnovers. Stiles was one of the top faceoff specialists in the conference, ranking third in the conference with 76 faceoff wins in 130 faceoffs. Fitzgerald led the team and was second in the conference with 17 caused turnovers and was top five in the SUNYAC with 31 ground balls.
