Don’t miss the last concert in the Summer Sunset Series on Friday, September 3, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy tunes by The Stone-Age Romeos, a local band from Greece with a long history in the region; have dinner in The Depot Restaurant; savor a craft beer on the deck of the Freight House Pub; and watch as the sun sets over Flint Hill. Live music is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and food and drink will be served until 8 p.m.
This Labor Day, visitors to Genesee Country Village & Museum can spend the holiday following the journey of hops, one of New York State’s original cash crops, from field, to brewery, to pint glass. The Hop Harvest Festival will take place on Monday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Explore a 19th-century brewery, sample local craft beers, learn how hops were used to dye fibers and fabrics, taste beer bread in a historic kitchen, explore the medicinal uses for hops, enjoy a historic meal served out of Hosmer’s Inn (built in 1818), and more. With a beer garden, hands-on hop harvesting, live music by Big Logic and the Truth Serum and one-man-band Jackson Cavalier, performances by the Heindengold German Dancers, food specials, and craft beer aplenty, this is a great way for a beer-enthusiast to spend the holiday. All 21+ visitors who intend to consume alcohol at the event must show valid identification with proof of age upon arrival at admissions and will be given a wrist band. Free admission is offered to all who register in advance for Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day, coming up on Saturday, September 18. On this special day, museum-goers can get free admission to their favorite participating cultural institutions by downloading a ticket from smithsonianmag.com. The Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people (per email address), and can be presented at admissions. GCV&M will have a full day of programs and demonstrations for all ages and interests. Meet costumed interpreters in the Historic Village, see wildlife on the nature trails, peruse the current exhibitions in the John L. Wehle Gallery, and more – all for free.
In celebration of Monroe County’s Bicentennial, and as home to 13 historic buildings from around Monroe County, Genesee Country Village & Museum is holding Monroe County Weekend on Saturday, September 25, and Sunday, September 26. During this weekend, all Monroe County residents can enjoy 10 percent off in the Flint Hill Store, 10 percent off on new membership purchases, and walking tours of all of the Monroe County buildings located at the museum (held at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.). Proof of residency must be provided at admissions.
With curator-led talks in the John L. Wehle Gallery on select Saturdays, nature trails to explore, daily programming and demonstrations in the Historic Village, and special events, Genesee Country Village & Museum is the perfect family outing this September.
