CWD launches Culinary Arts Job Training Course
The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development (CWD) is launching a new workforce development offering that prepares adults for rewarding careers in the culinary industry. Starting in September, the Culinary Arts Job Training Course assists students hoping to make the jump into the field, or simply trying to hone their culinary skills to climb the ladder.
“If you are interested in a career in the culinary world but need a flexible program to do so, CWD can help,” said CWD Director Tom Schulte. “We have a proven track record of preparing job-seekers for their next big opportunity, and our new Culinary Arts job training program might be the key to a rewarding new career.”
The new 13-week evening program provides a hybrid learning model that blends high impact learning in state-of-the-art industrial grade kitchens on campus, with at-home cooking assignments that can be completed in the comfort of one’s own kitchen. Graduates receive the industry-recognized ServSafe Certification.
Students learn kitchen safety and sanitation, traditional knife skills, methods of preparation, menu creation and cost, professionalism, and employment preparation (resumes and job search support.)
Classes are held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m., with an additional four hours of at-home cooking assignments (all food provided.) At the conclusion of the 13 weeks, students have an opportunity to pursue employment with selected industry leaders in the region.
Tuition for the program is $2,700, which includes a uniform and knife kit.
