Local residents among winners of Erie Canalway Photo Contest

The 2021 Erie Canalway Photo Contest winners were recently announced. From more than 300 entries, judges selected 12 winners divided among four categories – Classic Canal, Canal Communities, Along the Trail, and On the Water. Twelve additional photos were selected for honorable mention.

Spencerport’s Joe Pompili placed first in the Classic Canal category with his photo, Heaven Splits, which features the sunset over the canal in Adams Basin.

Kyle Preston of Holley placed second in the Canal Communities category with his photo, Hope, that was taken canalside in Brockport. Preston also received an honorable mention for his photo, Sunrise at Brockport.

Josephine Cicchinelli-Matela’s photo, One Main Street, Brockport, also received an honorable mention in the contest.

“These remarkable images showcase the beauty, history, and diversity of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. They remind us that the NYS Canal System is a national treasure worthy of preservation and celebration,” said Bob Radliff, Executive Director of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.

All of the winning photos and honorable mentions can be viewed online at https://eriecanalway.org/gallery/photo-contests. The 12 winning photos will be featured in the 2022 Erie Canalway calendar that will be available for free at libraries, visitor centers, and by request beginning in December.
