Veteran contributor Walter Horylev: Thank you for so many great photographs!
A true gentleman; thoughtful, kind, smart, fair, interested and interesting, eager to learn, a talented vocalist, a hard worker in his career as well as in his community of Hilton-Parma, committed to his word. We can all learn many lessons from the late Walter P. Horylev and his long and rich life. My lesson from knowing and working with him is to keep learning, no matter what your stage in life.
Over nearly two decades, photographer Walter Horylev helped readers of Westside News Inc. newspapers ‘see.’ As a frequent contributor, Walter was consistently interested, energetic, eager, and a stellar representative of the company. Meeting people, making them comfortable in front of the camera lens, and hearing and relating their stories never daunted him. Walter captured the essences of subjects such as tender moments with children at a Halloween party, the fun of 13 puppies visiting their veterinarian for the first time, the history of our local buildings in all stages of construction or destruction, the thrill of a carnival ride at an area festival, and the solemnity of a military funeral for a local veteran as it processed through villages.
Thank you, Walter, for sharing your talent, intelligence, humor, and grace with me and the residents of the communities served by Westside News Inc. newspapers. You will be missed.
