“Stage Whispers” welcomes Arusi Santi

Join Arusi Santi, a member of the cast of Geva Theatre Center’s production of Somewhere Over the Border, for a conversation about the play and politics at the next edition of Stage Whispers: Conversations with Theatre Professionals. The talk, which will take place on Thursday, April 21, at 11 a.m. is free and available to the public. It will be conducted via Zoom and can be accessed at https://bit.ly/StageWhispersApr21.

The play, a fable drawn from the real-life story of playwright Brian Quijada’s mother’s journey to the United States, explores what it is like when an immigrant comes to the U.S. in pursuit of the American Dream. The dream, however, is tinged by the depiction of America as some sort of fantastical Oz, which is not quite the reality she faces. These days, when immigrants, refugees, and border-crossings are so much a part of the news, the play’s message is prescient.

Santi portrays the Narrator in Somewhere Over the Border, his Geva Theatre Center debut. He has several regional theatre credits. In the UK, he has appeared in Much Ado About Nothing (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), and in Mexico he appeared in La Alondra (Teatro UNAM), as well as in several television productions. Santi has also helped develop plays at La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, The Guthrie Theater, Cygnet Theatre, and Moxie Theatre.

The “Stage Whispers” series is sponsored by SUNY Brockport’s Department of Theatre and Music Studies as part of their alliance with Geva Theatre Center. The series gives community members insight into the process of professional theatre artists. For information, call 395-2787.
