A Father’s Day treat at the New York Museum of Transportation
For Father’s Day on Sunday, June 19, fathers and grandfathers will receive free admission to the New York Museum of Transportation when accompanied by a youth age three to 12.
At the huge model railroad, dads and their youngsters will find fresh ideas for their own home layouts. Throughout the museum, visitors can actually climb into the cab of a steam locomotive and ring the bell in a trolley car. Highway and horse-drawn vehicles, models, photos, and smaller artifacts bring transportation history to life. The Midtown Plaza Monorail exhibit will bring back holiday memories, and the gallery features a short film depicting the Rochester Subway.
The museum’s two-mile round-trip trolley ride is a unique recreation of the interurban trolley era of a century ago. Rides depart at 11:30 a.m., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., and no reservations are needed.
Admission, including the trolley ride, is $10 adults, $9 seniors age 65+, and $6 youths age three to 12.
The New York Museum of Transportation is open Sundays only, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 6393 East River Road, just 20 minutes from downtown Rochester and easily reached from Exit 11 off I-390. For information, visit www.nymtmuseum.org, call 533-1113, or email info@nymtmuseum.org.
