Brockport Rotary Reads makes changes for 2022

The Rotary Club of Brockport will host six evenings of story time this summer, but with a few new twists. Rotary Reads will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays from July 6 through August 10 in Harvester Park by the Welcome Center. A themed group of books will be presented by Rotary members and surprise guest speakers from groups as diverse as the Brockport Police Department, Ginther School, and Veterans’ Outreach Center of Rochester as well as village officials. Families are invited to bring their kids for an evening of story time fun.

Save the date for the following themed storytimes:

•July 6 – America My Country in honor of Independence Day week – The club will have information from the Veterans’ Outreach Center and a donation jar. The funds that go to this charity stay in the area. Children are encouraged to bring small flags and wear red, white, and blue. Parents and children will be able to make red, white, and blue tricorn hats.

•July 13 – Viva La France in honor of Bastille Day – Brockport mayor Margaret Blackman will be the guest reader. The donation jar will be for the Tree Board to keep the village trees in good health.

•July 20 – Summertime Family Reunions – The guest reader for this evening will be Shawn Halquist, former high school band director and a member of the Brockport Village Board. Donations received on this night will go to the Ecumenical Food Shelf so those in need may have the means to share good times with family.

•July 27 – Christmas in July – Mr. Randall Yu, the new principal of the Ginther School, will be the guest reader. In keeping with the theme, instead of a collection jar for donations of money, attendees are invited to bring mittens, hats, socks, and scarves to be donated to the clothing shelf at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church to help keep people warm in December.

•August 3 – Seasons Change – It will be late summer, maybe even with the heat of the dog days of summer, yet change is coming. Donations collected this evening will go to support early literacy efforts for Universal Pre-K through first grade students to help them go to new heights in reading.

•August 10 – Things that Go – Sargent Hagen of the Brockport Police Department will be the guest reader for a fun night of books about things that go. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite toy that goes zoom. Donations this evening will go to the Stetson Club of Brockport.
