Free admission to transportation museum on July 24

Free admission to the New York Museum of Transportation in Rush will be offered on Sunday, July 24, thanks to Rochester Area Community Foundation’s “Gifts for Good” program honoring their fiftieth anniversary.

Throughout the museum, visitors can climb into the cab of a steam locomotive and ring the bell in a trolley car. Highway and horse-drawn vehicles, models, photos, and smaller artifacts bring transportation history to life. A huge model railroad runs several trains at once, and the Midtown Plaza Monorail exhibit will bring back holiday memories. The gallery also features a short film depicting the Rochester Subway.

The free admission includes the museum’s two-mile round-trip trolley ride with departures at 11:30 a.m., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Reservations are required; go to www.nymtmuseum.org.

The New York Museum of Transportation is open Sundays only, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 6393 East River Road, just 20 minutes from downtown Rochester and reached from Exit 11 off I-390. For information, call 585-533-1113 or visit www.nymtmuseum.org.
