Trolley rides at transportation museum

The New York Museum of Transportation, in Rush, will once again operate its popular electric trolley rides through scenic Genesee Valley countryside on Sunday, August 21. The two-mile round trips depart the museum at 11:30 a.m., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m., and no reservations are required.
Trolley cars operated by the museum hark back to the “interurban era” of a hundred years ago when large, fast electric trolley cars offered service between Rochester and Buffalo, Syracuse, and Geneva. A clean, comfortable alternative to steam trains, interurban trolleys around the country were a favorite means of travel from 1900 to the start of the Great Depression.
The museum’s historic trolley ride is included with admission of $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (65+), and $6 for youths (age 3-12). Featured exhibits enjoyed by all ages include a steam locomotive, a giant model railroad, and the Midtown Plaza Monorail. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and visitors are urged to arrive by 3:00 for time to see everything.
The museum is located 20 minutes south of Rochester at 6393 East River Road in Rush, one mile north of Rt. 251 (I-390 exit 11). For information, visit http://www.nymtmuseum.org, email info@nymtmuseum.org, or call 533-1113.
