Trolley rides at transportation museum September 4
The New York Museum of Transportation, in Rush, will once again operate its popular electric trolley rides through scenic Genesee Valley countryside on Sunday, September 4. The two-mile round trips depart the museum at 11:30 a.m., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., and no reservations are required.
Trolley cars operated by the museum hark back to the “interurban era” of a hundred years ago when large, fast electric trolley cars offered service between Rochester and Buffalo, Syracuse, and Geneva. A clean, comfortable alternative to steam trains, interurban trolleys were a favorite means of travel from 1900 to the start of the Great Depression.
The museum’s historic trolley ride is included with admission of $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (65+), and $6 youths (ages 3-12). Featured exhibits enjoyed by all ages include a steam locomotive, a giant model railroad, and the Midtown Plaza Monorail. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and visitors are urged to arrive by 3 p.m. for time to see everything.
The museum is located just 20 minutes south of Rochester at 6393 East River Road, Rush, one mile north of Rt. 251 (I-390 exit 11). For information, visit http://www.nymtmuseum.org, email info@nymtmuseum.org, or call 585-533-1113.
