Check Out Hunger campaign underway at Wegmans

The annual Check Out Hunger campaign has returned once again to Rochester-area Wegmans stores. The fundraiser provides critical assistance for Foodlink, the regional food bank and public health organization committed to ending hunger and building healthier communities. The point-of-sale campaign allows Wegmans shoppers to donate a few dollars – or simply round up their grocery bill – while checking out at 21 local stores.

This year’s campaign runs through November 26. Shoppers contributed $685,000 toward last year’s campaign.

“Foodlink is incredibly grateful to have the support of Wegmans and its shoppers as the holiday season approaches,” said Julia Tedesco, President & CEO. “Check Out Hunger is an easy way for Rochester-area residents to support our mission of ending hunger and building healthier communities.”

Donations help fund many of Foodlink’s food-related programs and support its food-banking operations across its 10-county service area.

According to Feeding America, more than 11% of people are food insecure in Foodlink’s service area, which means nearly 140,000 residents of Foodlink’s service area have uncertain or limited access to enough healthy food.
