Ogden holds first annual Christmas tree lighting

On Friday, December 9, the Town of Ogden held its first annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony outside the Town Hall. Town officials and residents enjoyed hot chocolate and candy canes provided by the town, then a group of students and teachers from Spencerport Central School District sang Christmas carols. The evening concluded with the inaugural lighting of the Christmas tree.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make Friday’s inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony a success,” said Ogden Town Supervisor Mike Zale. “It was a frigid evening, but that didn’t stop so many of you from coming out to be a part of the holiday festivities.”

“We knew Christmas on the Canal wasn’t taking place this year, so we wanted to plan something special for residents; it seemed like a Christmas tree lighting ceremony was the perfect choice. I hope our town Christmas tree will bring our community together for many years to come, and I’m excited to see this wonderful holiday tradition grow with it.”

On November 22, the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance class from BOCES helped town staff plant the Christmas tree outside the Ogden Community Center.
