Free community-wide Health Services Day in Hilton
A free, community-wide Health Services Day will be held on Saturday, May 13, from noon to 4 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Hilton. Reverend Greg Kremer felt it was important to bring in the northwest community mental health, physical health, addiction care, and career services that can be hard for rural residents to access.
This idea came into fruition after Reverend Greg met Josie McClary, Community Engagement Officer for the Monroe County Executive’s Office, at a Health Fair in the city of Rochester. It led to Rev. Greg reflecting on the question: What needs can we meet by holding a Health and Community Services Day in the Hilton area? Reverend Greg and Josie began to collaborate with nearly a dozen departments from Monroe County and many other individual community organizations to be present at the Northwest Health and Community Services Day.
At this event, free health screenings will be available for diabetes, cancer, blood pressure, vision, and more. Mental and emotional health services will be available for all ages, as well as services for abuse victims and those struggling with addictions. Senior services and programs will also be highlighted. A mobile vaccine unit will be providing free influenza and COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department will be there to make Child ID Cards. There will also be career and employment opportunities for those in need. Assistance will be available to connect individuals with health care services and assistance programs for WIC, Medicare, and Medicaid.
An array of free services are available from various providers such as UR Medicine, Flaum Eye Institute, Fidelis Care, Excellus, American Red Cross, Bivona Child Advocacy Center, Life Span and the Office of the Aging. County Legislator Blake Keller, Hilton Central School District, and Hilton Parks and Recreation Department are also actively supporting this event.
This family-friendly event will be serving free pizza, courtesy of Carbone’s Pizzeria. There will be a special cookie decorating and card creation table for Mother’s Day, compliments of Wegmans.
“The event is the Saturday before Mother’s Day and we would love kids to be able to create something special for their mother. The Hilton community, especially the school community, has been through a lot, and we hope this can be part of the healing by bringing the community together in fellowship,” said Reverend Greg. Josie echoed the sentiment, “A community that heals together grows together.”
