The Spencerport Rotary Club recently began a program to vote for and honor a Citizen of the Year. The club wanted to highlight and thank a local person for their contributions to the community.
For the inaugural choice, two well-known individuals were tied in the voting: Chris Mears, former Ogden Police Chief and current Safety Officer at Spencerport Central School District; and Todd Baxter, Monroe County Sheriff. Both have demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to the community.
A celebration dinner was recently held to honor the recipients. As part of the celebration, Rotary made a donation in the recipient’s name to a favorite non-profit. Chris Mears chose the Spencerport Education Foundation while Todd Baxter selected Primetime585. Each organization received a check for $200.
