Free awareness seminar for parents

A seminar titled “Protecting and Parenting Our Children in Today’s Culture” will be held in Clarkson on Friday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. Free and open to the public, the seminar is intended to help anyone that cares for a child address difficult topics such as parental and children’s rights with sexuality and gender identity issues.

The guest speaker is Bridgette Heap, an author and researcher who helps families be more cognizant of what children are being exposed to, sometimes even without a parent’s knowledge or permission, especially through the public-school system’s clubs, books, websites, and curriculum.

The goal of the event is to inform parents and caregivers about the new policies that the New York State Department of Education has implemented that affect children’s and parents’ rights. Heap will also provide an overview of a Supreme Court case that affects parental rights. An open forum ‘Question and Answer’ session will be held at the end of the event.

This free event is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Jubilee Church, 3565 Lake Road North in Clarkson, near Hafner Park. There will be free childcare provided. A drawstring backpack will be given to each child in the family that registers by August 21 and the child does not have to be present to receive the backpack.

Although the event is being held in a church, this is not a faith-based event. “There will be no preaching at this event. The purpose of this is to simply educate families about their rights.” said Pastor Emilio Sebastian. Pastor Emilio has received emails from teachers from a local school district expressing their concerns and sadness on the gender confusing curriculum that they are now being forced to teach to children as young as five years of age. “The bottom line is, we are holding this to help bring awareness to the community to help protect families,” said Pastor Emilio.
