Ogden Presbyterian Church welcomes new pastor

Reverend Whitney Scoville was appointed as the new Pastor at Ogden Presbyterian Church on September 18. A Churchville-Chili graduate, Whitney resides in Hilton with her husband and children.

Whitney spent her career in social work but always had a heart for ministry. After thirteen years working as a licensed social worker, she felt the call on her life to dedicate her career to full time ministry. Having a young family and working, she decided to attend Dubuque University’s online seminary program to become a commissioned pastor. “The online option met our family’s needs,” said Whitney.

Whitney’s focus in social work was supporting children, adolescents, and families. She worked for the Center for Youth in Cayuga and at the University of Rochester. Working full time, having a young family, and going to school part time made it a slow transition of careers. “It was six years in the making,” said Whitney.

During Whitney’s career in social work, she was highly active in ministry. She served as an elder deacon assisting with youth group ministries, served with mission trips, and was an interim pastor (pulpit supply) at OPC over the past few years.

“There was always something different about Ogden Presbyterian; the Holy Spirit is really stirring here, and I am excited to serve here,” she said.

Reverend Whitney Scoville became the official pastor of OPC just a few short weeks ago and she is already engaging with the community. She plans to get a better understanding of the needs of the community so OPC can help with those needs. “We would love to be a big support to the community of Ogden,” said Whitney.

The church is meeting with the Spencerport Ecumenical Food shelf to provide support and is already growing the community clothing closet which is held at the church every first and third Saturday of the month. “I am excited to see what is going to unfold here in the upcoming year” said Whitney.
