Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley reveals new mission and upcoming events
The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley is hosting two new events this November: the inaugural Power Her Forward Girls Conference on November 18 and the annual Purse for Change Event on November 30.
Through these events, the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley aims to amplify the voices of women and girls in the Greater Rochester area. They aim to remove barriers to success through community engagement and charitable donations.
The Power Her Forward Girls Conference, for 14 to 19-year-olds, will feature a packed schedule of events, including multiple breakout workshops, art therapy, and a lunch session with the keynote speaker. The conference will combine arts and social-emotional learning to empower girls to feel in control of their environment, finances, and mental health while equipping them with the skills to be the best version of themselves. There are 150 slots available. Registration ends November 1. Sign up at https://form.jotform.com/232588729522163?blm_aid=0.
The Purse for Change Event on November 30 is the foundation’s signature fundraiser. This year, the event will feature a designer purse auction with bags ranging in price from $30 to upwards of $1,000. The evening will include a silent auction and a luxury raffle. Every dollar raised through this mission-focused event directly supports women and girls by amplifying their voices and removing barriers to success through community engagement, grant distribution, and programs. The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley was established in 1994 to manage a permanent endowment that would create lasting social change by investing in programs that benefit women and girls. Women in our community volunteer to raise, manage, and distribute the funds. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $2.2 million to programs that have proven successful in helping women and girls achieve economic self-sufficiency.
The Foundation is nearing its 30th anniversary, and it has spent several months redefining its new mission and approach to addressing systemic inequities in the Greater Rochester Community and philanthropy.
Interim Director Krystle Ellis states that the WFGV “envisions a future where all women and girls are recognized, consulted and regarded as the ultimate stakeholder in their future. They are the change agents in our community. The foundation is different in the sense that we are listening because it’s not our foundation, it’s your foundation.”
Looking ahead, the Women’s Foundation has deepened its mission to remove the barriers to success that all women and girls face – especially those coming from marginalized settings and other historically resilient communities.
