IJC holding webinar on Great Lakes water quality
What should be done to improve Great Lakes water quality? That is the overarching question that the International Joint Commission’s (IJC) 2023 Third Triennial Assessment of Progress on Great Lakes Water Quality (TAP) seeks to answer.
A bilingual (English and French) virtual public news conference and question-and-answer session about the report will be held on Zoom from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, to hear from the IJC about the report’s findings and recommendations. The report, in both English and French, will also be available on the IJC’s website to read. Register for the webinar at https://tinyurl.com/wunzeb7p.
The TAP report is a review of US and Canadian federal governmental efforts to restore, protect and enhance Great Lakes water quality between 2020 and 2022, as prescribed by the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.
Under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the IJC assesses the progress of the Canadian and US governments every three years relative to water quality and other environmental and health-related factors. The IJC must consider the federal governments’ joint State of the Great Lakes report and review the Progress Report of the Parties. The Agreement aims to safeguard the Great Lakes and ensure its waters are safe for drinking, fishing, recreation and other general and specific objectives for the region’s 40 million residents.
