“Stage Whispers” is “Flying Solo”
Stepping on stage in a play can be nerve-wracking for even the most seasoned performers. But when you are the only performer in a show, needing to command the stage on your own – especially in a play you have written yourself – the stakes can be that much higher.
As fate may have it, for several weeks in November, Geva Theatre Center will be presenting not one but two one-person shows as part of their season. The writer/performers behind these shows, Maurice Emmanuel Parent and Vanessa Severo, have agreed to take part in “Flying Solo,” the next installment of Stage Whispers: Conversations with Theatre Professionals, part of the ongoing alliance between Geva Theatre Center and the Department of Theatre and Music Studies at SUNY Brockport. The series gives community members insight into the process of professional theatre artists.
The panel discussion will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, in the Tower Fine Arts Center Black Box Theatre, 180 Holley Street. It is free and open to the public.
The pair will discuss what inspired them to create these pieces for themselves, what it is like to perform without a net (as it were), and their lives in the industry. The panel will be moderated by Lara Rhyner, Geva’s Acting Director of Education.
