4-H Achievement Night celebrates youth accomplishments

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County (CCE-Monroe) 4-H Youth Development Program gathered at Pittsford Community Library with 4-H members and volunteers to celebrate the learning and achievements of the 2022-2023 project year.

Fourteen youth received 4-H Achievement Awards and were recognized for their dedication to every aspect of 4-H: Keighley Pude, Christian Cobb, Jacob Pude, Grace Potter, Olivia Stefano, Avery Pude, Ella Tatar, Melanie List, Travis List, Audrey Casaceli, Kennedy Barber, Aubrianna Knight, Evelyn Kaproth-Joslin, and Chloe Wilson. Recipients participated in multiple educational, service, and promotional events as well as prepared a 4-H public presentation during the previous project year. Along with 4-H Achievement awards, over 20 youth received Star Service Awards, 4-H Scholar Awards and Visionary Presenter awards for their participation in educational, service, and public presentation events. Cloverbuds, ages five to seven, received a special recognition during the ceremony.

The Monroe County 4-H program also awarded three academic scholarships worth a total of $3,000 to graduating seniors in 2023. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s quality and breadth of project area, demonstrated leadership, community service, and participation in organizations outside of 4-H. Scholarship recipients were Madina Rahim, Clara Whilden, and Miranda Rose Lanzatella.

The Monroe County 4-H program awarded Paper Clover scholarships for camps and educational programs to several recipients this year, such as Magical Outdoor Adventures at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills.
A ceremony allowed youth to celebrate their achievements and gather with other 4-H members throughout Monroe County. All youth who attended the ceremony had the opportunity to win door prizes from local establishments. The Brick Lab, Shadow Hill, RMSC, and Stokoe Farms all made generous donations to the 2023 4-H Achievement Night.

Adding to the fun was an animal workshop from special guest Crunchy Sam’s Critters. Youth interacted with animals such as a snake, axolotl, scorpion and tarantula to learn more about the unique critters we share the planet with.

The 4-H team enjoyed looking back on all of the work the Monroe County 4-H’ers have completed throughout the past year.

The Monroe County 4-H Program is offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension to the youth of Monroe County. 4-H is a worldwide youth development program open to all youth aged five to 19, who want to have fun, learn new skills, and explore the world. In return, youth who participate in 4-H find a supportive environment and opportunities for hands-on or “experiential” learning about things that interest them.
