Brockport BFA Thesis Exhibit highlights two budding artists
As part of their senior year projects, two visual artists – Merve Duyar and Rosalie Santiago – will show their works in a BFA Thesis Exhibition. The show will be on view at the Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery at SUNY Brockport from November 30 through December 10. The Gallery is located at 180 Holley Street, Brockport, and the exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, November 30, at 4 p.m.
Notwithstanding their upcoming graduation, Duyar and Santiago already have something to crow about: Each had pieces in the “Best of SUNY” juried exhibition that has been on display in Albany for the past year. According to associate professor Sara DiDonato, “applying to juried exhibitions, preparing work for installation, and writing brief statements about work are all part of learning about being a professional artist. The Department of Art is so proud of these exemplary students.”
Duyar’s work explores aquatic life. In their artist statement, they write that their work “started as exploration and manifestation of my own personal fears. The unknown can be frightening, and my attempts to make sense of the unknown involve breaking down complex organisms into understandable parts that seem more tangible and accessible.” In her work, Santiago includes “depictions of the different stages that one goes through while on a spiritual journey.”
