Knights of Columbus hold Silver Rose Service
On November 10, members of the Knights of Columbus Council 7707 held a Silver Rose Prayer Service at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Brockport. Knights of Columbus Council 7707 encompasses members from the parishes of St. John the Evangelist in Spencerport, Nativity of the BVM in Brockport, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton in Hamlin, and St. Christopher’s in North Chili.
The service was organized by Past Grand Knight Robert Rejewski, of Brockport, and led by the Pastor of Nativity of the BVM Father Joseph Marcoux. In attendance were also Grand Knight Scott Nather, head of Council 7707, and Past Grand Knights Larry Peck and Ray Ehnot. Many other members of the Council were present along with parishioners from the various parishes.
The Silver Rose program is a powerful expression of Marian devotion and intercontinental unity. A Knights of Columbus Silver Rose was presented to Pope Francis at the conclusion of a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12, 2014. Cardinal Norberto Rivera, archbishop of Mexico City and a member of the Knights, was among the concelebrants.
The Holy Father received the silver rose from Msgr. Eduardo Chávez, postulator of the cause for canonization of St. Juan Diego and a canon of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, at the symbolic culmination of the 55th annual Silver Rose program.
The program shares the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe and promotes respect for life by participating in this meaningful pilgrimage. The Silver Rose program demonstrates the unity between Knights of Columbus in Canada, the United States and Mexico, through a series of prayer services promoting the dignity of all human life, from conception to natural death, and honoring Our Lady.
Each year, from early March through mid-December, Silver Roses are stewarded by Knights of Columbus councils along routes from Canada to Mexico. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is a rosary-centered occasion for Knights, parishioners and community members to pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation, and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
