New online toolkit for injured workers
NYS Workers’ Compensation Board has launched a new online resource to help workers who become injured or ill because of their job. The Injured Worker’s Toolkit is designed to ensure anyone who suffers a work-related illness or injury can easily understand their rights, how to file a claim, and the resources available to them as they heal and get back on their feet.
“The Board is committed to protecting the hardworking people of New York State,” said Board Chair Clarissa Rodriguez. “We understand how difficult it can be for workers and their families after a workplace injury or illness and want to ensure they understand the workers’ compensation process so they can receive the benefits they’re due. This toolkit puts all the information they need in one, easy-to-navigate page.”
The new toolkit, available at http://wcb.ny.gov/iwtoolkit, explains how the workers’ compensation system works, what the benefits are, and provides key deadlines as it guides the reader through the process of filing a claim. The toolkit also shares information on useful resources, including language access, social services, and vocational rehabilitation, as well as details related to medical care and treatment, including the types of providers who can be authorized to treat injured workers.
The Injured Worker’s Toolkit complements the continuous outreach the Board does to educate injured and ill workers about their rights and responsibilities under the New York State Workers’ Compensation Law. Each month, the Board’s Advocate for Injured Workers hosts a free Workers’ Comp 101 webinar which covers how to file a claim; how to get help with a claim if needed; tips and best practices for injured workers; and a live question and answer session at the end. The Advocate also hosts a Workers’ Comp 202 webinar, which provides a deeper dive into medical care and other key topics.
