Rochester Oratorio Society to perform NY premiere of “We Are On Native Land”
The Rochester Oratorio Society is set to perform, “The Road Home,” featuring the New York premiere of “We Are On Native Land,” with music by Brent Michael Davids, Mohegan, and lyrics by Trish Corcoran, Tonawanda Onondowaga. The concert will occur on March 15, 7:30 p.m., at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1040 East Avenue, Rochester.
ROS will be joined by the Bach Children’s Chorus of Rochester, directed by Karla Krogstad, and representatives of Native American Community Services. Local collaborators include Kae Wilbert, Cherokee, and Cheri Trimble, Upper Mohawk, Turtle Clan.
The program includes works by Aaron Copland, R. Nathaniel Dett, Randall Thompson, Jean Ford, and Norman Dello Joio, with Kevin Nitsch providing keyboard accompaniment. The evening will also highlight opera choruses, psalms, spirituals, and a setting by Walt Whitman.
