Bringing folklore to life with fully-funded roadside markers

The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is now accepting applications for the Legends & Lore® Marker Grant Program, which helps promote cultural tourism by highlighting local folklore and legends with roadside markers.

The Legends & Lore marker grant applications will be accepted through Monday, April 29. Grant funding from the Pomeroy Foundation includes the full cost of a marker, pole and shipping. Prospective applicants must apply through a 501(c)(3) organization such as a historical society, nonprofit academic institution, or local, state, or federal government entity.

Legends & Lore marker grant applications are accepted from New York and other states where there is a program partner organization.

Since the program was launched in 2015, the Pomeroy Foundation has funded more than 165 Legends & Lore markers across multiple states that recognize a range of subject matter, from folk songs and local traditions to tall tales.
