Genesee Country Village & Museum begins the 2024 high season on Wednesday, May 8, followed by a jam-packed season of fairs and festivals, daily programming, and exciting new exhibits. The largest living history museum in New York, GCV&M encompasses over 600 acres and includes 68 buildings in the Historic Village, an extensive collection of sporting art and historic clothing in the John L. Wehle Gallery, and over five miles of trails and habitats at the newly renovated Nature Center. Visitors of all ages will find something of interest all year long. Historical happenings every day
There’s something for everyone, every season, at Genesee Country Village & Museum. Visit in the spring to see historic kitchens utilizing freshly-grown goods and historic farmers demonstrating agricultural tasks in preparation for the season of plenty. Come in the summer to see heirloom gardens bursting to life and vintage base ball games in Silver Ball Park. Plan a trip in the fall to experience explosions of fall foliage around the Great Meadow and the Village Square. And make sure to come back in the winter for cheerful special events and ready making for the cold months ahead. New stories told throughout the Historic Village, particularly surrounding gendered clothing in the Dressmaker’s Shop and Tailor’s Shop, and the history of enslavement in NYS in the Land Office, explore the diversity of life in 19th-century New York and reveal the broad tapestry that is our shared history. New for 2024: Everybody’s Going to be There! The American Rural Cemetery Movement
in the John L. Wehle Gallery
Opening on Wednesday, May 8, a new multi-media exhibit in Genesee Country Village & Museum’s John L. Wehle Gallery will explore the concept of the American rural cemetery and challenge the notion of burial spaces as gloomy or frightening places. Rather, the exhibit posits the institution of the rural cemetery as a social center with a living ecosystem – a place for scenic respite. Everybody’s Going to be There! presents a wide variety of fine wildlife art, maps, memorial art, natural animal and geological specimens, mourning jewelry and stationery, and cemetery tourism ephemera of the 19th century. New in the Nature Center
In the Genesee Country Nature Center (open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends), visitors can explore natural history, maple sugaring, and flora and fauna of the Genesee Valley Region. Stop by to rest, birdwatch, let kids play in the Cozy Corner, or talk with a naturalist before heading out on five miles of Nature Trails. Fairs & Festivals in 2024
GCV&M is rolling out a full season of special events in 2024. Collectors of vintage wares can browse and purchase quality antiques (plus handcrafted local goods with connections to 19th-century trades) at the Antiques & Artisans Show (May 11, exclusive Preview Party on May 10). Moms can enjoy all the Museum has to offer for free on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12), plus add on a Mother’s Day Brunch for an additional fee. Visitors will explore the Northern experience during the Civil War and the impact on the Genesee Valley Region during Civil War Week (May 15 through 19). Craft beer lovers can savor tastings and see a circa 1803 brewery in action during History on Tap (June 7). Planning a visit
Genesee Country Village & Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from May 8 through September 1, with reduced days of operation throughout September, October, November, and December. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance and save. Regular daily admission is discounted in May and June.
