Young life-saver recognized at Sweden Town Board meeting

Leigha Walker, the Holley High School senior who performed heroic actions to safe a man’s life earlier in June, was recognized at the Sweden Town Board meeting on June 25. Leigha was working at Subway in the town of Sweden when a driver had a medical incident that caused him to crash into the plaza’s support post. Leigha ran out to check on the driver and saw that he was unconscious and the truck doors were locked.

She found a heavy rod and others helped her to break a car window and pull the man out. Leigha began administering CPR until emergency medical technicians could take over. There is no doubt she saved the man’s life and his family has been in contact with her to thank her.

Joining the Sweden Town Board in honoring Leigha were Monroe County Legislator Jackie Smith and the Brockport Fire Department. Sweden Supervisor Patricia Hayles noted Leigha not only for her proficiency at CPR but her willingness to take charge in a chaotic situation.
