Saunders Finger Lakes Museum hosts 8th annual Paddle Keuka 5K

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum hosts a variety of programs every year, with their annual Paddle Keuka 5K being one of the highlights of the season. Each year, additional fun is added to the mix of activities and this year is no exception. The 8th annual event, to be held August 3, is themed “Paddle in Paradise” – sure to bring tropical shirts and brightly colored fun to the already beautiful backdrop of the Branchport campus.

The race, deemed a family-friendly event for all skill levels and paddlers, is a competition for kayaks, canoes, and SUPs. For the ultimate racer to the casual participant, the first Saturday in August is sure to be as sweet as pineapple on a hot day. JR’s Back Alley BBQ and Steuben Brewing are eager to join in on the fun with food and drinks available for purchase after the race. A tropical costume contest is planned in addition to a raffle, commemorative shirts for racers and on-theme cheerful music. Beginning at 8 a.m., this race is a perfect way to get out on the water on a bright and sunny summer morning.

Racers can register online at http://www.FingerLakesMuseum.org where a dedicated page will provide details, answers to frequently asked questions, and helpful links. For those without the gear, equipment use can be included in the cost of participation. Spectators are more than welcome and all visitors to the site will see dramatic change to the main museum campus, as the construction of the main exhibition hall is well underway.

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum is dedicated to inspiring appreciation and celebrating the cultures and ecology of the vast Finger Lakes Region. Located on 30 acres at the northwest tip of Keuka Lake, the site boasts a wetlands property with interpretive signage, a 200-foot boardwalk leading to an octagon pavilion, natural playscape for kids of all ages, and public kayak and canoe launch. The campus is open for exploration to the public, free-of-charge, from dawn to dusk.
