Ogden Town Board unanimously adopts 2025 budget

After months of planning and preparation, I am pleased to announce that the Ogden Town Board unanimously approved the proposed 2025 Town of Ogden Budget on October 23. The budget totals $16,384,280 and, as promised, remains under the 2% Tax Cap Levy, which was less than $350,000.

In our 2025 Adopted Budget, $8.9 million represents our Tax Levy. This amount is what is taxed by the town to satisfy the budget, while the remainder of the budget is raised through other revenues such as services to other governments, sales tax revenue and permit fees, among others. It’s important to note that while your tax bill includes multiple taxing entities, such as the School District, County, and Fire District, the Town Board and I have jurisdiction and oversight only over the Town of Ogden tax rate.

This year’s budgeting process presented significant challenges. As many families know, the costs for essential goods and services remain incredibly high. With four younger boys, my wife and I feel the impact of these increased expenses every time we go to the grocery store.

Unfortunately, the town also faces substantial increases in expenditures across various areas as well, particularly in health care and vehicle insurance.

Despite these challenges, we remain committed to responsible fiscal management and have delivered a budget that upholds the high level of service our residents expect. We also made a concerted effort to lower costs for our residents, which is reflected in the adopted budget’s tax rate reductions. For those living in the village, the tax rate will decrease from $4.17 to $3.04. For residents in the town but outside the village, the rate will drop from $5.59 to $3.56.

One year ago, I promised that the town-wide reassessment would not raise taxes or impact our budget decisions. We not only upheld that promise but also delivered a responsible budget that limits spending, lowers tax rates, and ensures our residents continue to enjoy all the services and amenities our wonderful town has to offer.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all our town department heads and their staff for the hard work and collaboration, which made this budgeting process smooth and effective. A special thank you goes to our Finance Director, Sherri Foley, for her dedication and countless hours of effort to ensure our 2025 Budget is one our residents can be proud of.
