Annual African American Health Symposium to be held April 3

The Rochester & Finger Lakes Region Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold its annual Dr. Lemuel & Gloria Rogers African American Health Symposium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
This free health awareness event is a longtime tradition in Rochester’s African American community and is focused on providing education about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in the Black population, along with sharing information on the supportive resources available in the area. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Honoring our Caregivers: The Strength Behind the Journey.”
Guest speakers will include Francis J. Clement, CFP, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual, who will discuss estate planning; Melany Silas-Chandler, PhD, president and CEO of BreatheDeep, Inc., who will discuss mental health and self-care strategies; and Miles Zatkowsky, Esq., of Rochester Elder Law, who will discuss potential legal issues arising from a dementia diagnosis. In addition, there will be panel discussions featuring local healthcare and senior care leaders, along with a resource fair. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered participants.
