Riga Recreation hosts two successful events

by David Thomas,
Riga Recreation Supervisor

Riga Recreation’s 15th edition of Monroe County’s “Pick Up The Parks” program was held Saturday, April 12, at Churchville Park. Over 50 adults and students from the Churchville-Chili schools (high school, middle school and elementary) came out in the morning’s foggy weather to scour the park to clean up last year’s trash and tree damage due to the winter weather and high winds.

This event was a huge success due to the awesome participation of the following individuals/organizations: Zach (Churchville Park staff), Marty Molinari (LEO Club Advisor), George Beldue (donated three sheet pizzas from Pontillo’s for the hungry workers), Doug Eisele (photographer), Village of Churchville/Chamber of Commerce, Waste Management, Monroe County Pharmaceutical Recycling, and the Harvey C. Noone Post #945.

Now, feel free to visit our beautiful park to enjoy: boating, kayaking, fishing, rent-a-lodge, golf, disc golf, soccer, walking, dog walking, hiking, picnics at the pavillions, ice skating, and birdwatching.

Thank you to all that came to Riga Recreation’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Harvey C. Noone American Legion Post # 945 on Saturday, April 19. The weather finally cooperated after six years of inclement weather, so that we could hunt for eggs outside.

Words alone can hardly express all the thanks to the many individuals and organizations that have made this event the best that it can become. I am going to try though: Tish and all the American Legion folks that helped stuff eggs, set up the Legion venue with crafts, games, coloring stations, Pin the Tail on the Bunny, video programs, and Welcoming tables; Arlene’s Face Painting; Marty Molinari and the Churchville-Chili/Chuchville Lions LEO Cub that manned the stations and spread the eggs outside; Doug Eisele (photographer extraordinaire) for capturing the whole event; The Easter Bunny; Scott Flagler and his Riga Crew and Kohlman Farms for picking up straw bales (that, unfortunately, we could not use due to the early morning rains that made the grounds too wet; Black Creek Deli/Salvatore’s for donating gift cards; and, finally, all the egg hunters and their parents/grandparents!
