Why there’s no candidate forum –and what we’re doing instead

We believe the residents of Brockport deserve transparency, open dialogue, and leaders who are willing to show up, answer questions, and be held accountable.

That’s why we were ready and eager to participate in a public candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters – a well-respected, nonpartisan organization with a long history of facilitating civil democratic discourse – and moderated by Westside News.

Unfortunately, the mayoral candidate from Better Brockport declined to participate. Because the League requires participation from both parties, they are unable to host the event.

This is more than a missed opportunity – it’s a troubling signal. Leaders must be willing to engage directly with the people they hope to serve. Declining a public forum shows a lack of transparency, a lack of accountability, and a lack of readiness to lead.

We won’t let that stop us from connecting with you.

Our team – Annie Crane, Brittany Profit-Rheinwald, and BoB LeSuer – will continue to share our ideas, values, and plans for Brockport in every way we can:
•We update our website with our policies, priorities and events. Find out what we are doing at www.brockportproud.net/events.
•We’re holding a virtual forum on our website and online platforms so voters can see where we stand on key issues.
•We’re showing up and we will continue to do so – at your doors, at events, in your neighborhoods – to listen and engage directly.

Brockport deserves leadership that listens, shows up, and puts community first. That’s what we offer – and we’re ready to prove it.
