Kendall’s Bohn honored with UConnectCare Prevention Award

Nathan Bohn, Kendall Junior/Senior High School Health and Wellness Instructor, was recently awarded the Friends of UConnectCare Prevention Award for his work surrounding prevention education. This award recognizes those who have contributed to UConnectCare’s mission of preventing and treating substance use disorders in Genesee and Orleans counties.
“I am incredibly proud of Nathan Bohn for earning the Friends of UConnectCare Prevention Award,” said JSHS principal Melissa Strelick. “It is vital that our students have access to substance use prevention resources, and thanks to Nathan’s initiative and our UConnectCare satellite office, we have created a hub of support that empowers young people to make healthy decisions.”
Bohn is recognized for regularly tapping into the prevention education opportunities offered by UConnectCare, well before Kendall Central Schools entered its partnership with the organization. Once the partnership was implemented and a satellite office was established in-district, it was easier for Bohn to seek educational opportunities from on-site Prevention Educator Mary Wright, who has been regularly invited to his classes to give insight into the dangers of vaping, and to present an evidence-based curriculum called “Too Good For Violence” to JSHS seventh graders.
“Nathan Bohn is a valuable friend of UConnectCare Orleans County Prevention,” said Wright in her nomination and at the award ceremony. “He is a welcoming individual and a great asset to the Kendall Central School District and a friend to UConnectCare Prevention Department.”
“To be recognized by UConnectCare is a tremendous honor,” said Bohn. “They do so many things to help our community, and I am just one small piece of the puzzle that is helping to steer the lives of youth in the right direction. I am delighted to be able to partner with UConnect to implement prevention strategies to our students this year and in the years to come.”
